Nothing is better during a cold Winter night than cozy, woolen bedding. But, as the soft Spring winds blow and large rain drops fall, my mind gravitates toward the task of Spring cleaning. Ever since I was little, as the last drift of snow evaporated a list of chores suddenly appeared. From reorganizing the kitchen cupboards and washing the walls to straightening the closets and preparing winter wearables for next season, nothing was out of the question. After so many nights of comfort and warmth, your wool bedding deserves the same attentive care.
Of course, a gentle wash on the soak cycle of a top-loading machine can be done whenever it is needed. Just view the Proper care of your Wool tab on the left side of our website. But, at least once every 4-7 years, it is time to consider having your favorite Cuddle Ewe bedding reconditioned or restored. The wool from your Cuddle Ewe comforters, mattress pads, or pillows can be rewashed, recarded into a lofty batt, and then recovered with a brand new,100% cotton, natural-colored, muslin fabric. Before you know it, your flat and drab Cuddle Ewe wool products have been restored to their original condition.
If you are an avid quilter, we can simply wash and recard your own wool into a batt leaving you with the opportunity to quilt the batt to match your own decor. We can even add a cheesecloth cover for ease of quilting if you desire. On the other hand, if sewing is not your forte, you can send us fabric that matches your decor and we can sew on an outside cover. We also make removable duvet covers which can be taken off and washed if you spill soda while watching your favorite movie, or if a pet has decided that your bed is his domain and has taken to leaving his muddy paw prints to mark his territory. Being able to wash the duvet cover allows you to periodically freshen up your comforter without having to disturb the wool inside the comforter.
Some other things that you can do to keep enjoying your wool bedding is hang it on the clothesline on a nice windy day. Sunshine is a natural sanitizer. Give your bedding a quick shake when you are making the bed and don’t forget to flip your mattress pads occasionally. Wool is an ecological and earthfriendly choice to make when deciding on new bedding. Just think, a wool product you buy today could still be reconditioned to be used by your great-grandchildren.
